The jack crevalle (Caranx hippos) is a powerful, coastal game fish that migrates along the Gulf of California and Pacific coasts in search of warm waters and baitfish, especially during the winter and spring. While not highly prized for its meat, it is greatly valued by sport anglers for its strength and fierce fight. During the winter season in Baja, its presence boosts fishing activity in areas like La Paz, Loreto, and the Sea of Cortez, attracting anglers looking for a tough battle on the line. Its seasonal abundance reflects a healthy, productive ecosystem and also supports local economies through fishing tourism.
