The pink grouper, locally known in Mexico as baqueta, is a large deep-water serranid fish found in the eastern Pacific, particularly in the Gulf of California and off the coast of Baja California Sur. It has a reddish to pinkish coloration and can grow to impressive sizes, often exceeding 30 kg (66 lbs). It inhabits deep rocky reefs and is highly prized in both sport and commercial fisheries for its firm, flavorful meat. It is mostly caught during warmer months, and its presence is linked to healthy, deep-water marine ecosystems.
